Dentures in Woodbridge, ON
What is a Denture?
A denture is an artificial set of teeth that is worn to replace your natural teeth and gums. Partial dentures can replace one tooth or a small number of teeth. Complete dentures or full dentures are meant to replace all of the teeth on either the top or bottom of the mouth. Both types of dentures are removable by the wearer.
Partial dentures are used when the surrounding teeth are not strong enough to support a dental bridge. These partial dentures or partials are held in place by clasps that fit around nearby teeth. They are removable so that they can be cleaned and so that the user can take them out before going to bed.
Complete dentures are referred to as full dentures as well. These dentures are held in place by suction and are removable for cleaning and sleeping also.
Tooth Replacement Considerations
While partial and complete dentures are a cost-effective treatment choice, they do have some disadvantages. Partial and complete dentures will result in bone loss or shrinking of bone in the mouth over time. This means that the dentures will require adjustments to fit the shrinking bone levels in the mouth. Dentures that are held in place by dental implants (implant-retained-dentures) do not have this issue.
Dentures may also slip or slide while talking and chewing certain foods. Implant-retained dentures offer a secure and stable fit which eliminates these issues.
